A Journey Toward a Hunger Free Philadelphia

By the end of last year, more than one in four Philadelphians had to skip or cut meals due to lack of money. That means over 440,000 people, 150,000 of whom are children.

Dr. Donald Schwartz, Philadelphia’s health commissioner, calls hunger a silent crisis in the city. And in response to our nation’s escalating food insecurity numbers, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said “...these (numbers) are a wake-up call for the country.”

Hunger is prophetic witness to something seriously out of balance in our society. We need to do something, and we need to do it now.

What is City Soup?

City Soup Philadelphia is a hunger awareness program developed by an interfaith grass roots collective, determined to find solutions and improvements to the issue of hunger in our region.

Now in its third year, City Soup is picking up steam, educating many and giving voice/making noise about the state of hunger in our City and Region. You will learn more about the impact we, as people of faith, are making when you get to Week 3 and 4 of the Journey. Read about our 40,000+ Hunger Postcard advocacy effort!

See what we are doing together as Justice Makers.
